Whodat in Kudat? Part 1

Hello all. So it has been a while since my last blog entry which is why this one is going to be huge! Probably a three or four parter. Ami and I have spent the last 30 days living in a small town situated at the tip of Borneo called Kudat. You may remember some video footage in our last entry of us at a beach at the tip of Borneo. Well, we went back and lived with a man who hosted us the entire time while we worked with a group of about 50 teenagers. Every day Ami and I would teach them English, math, computers and music. Many of them were so musical that we actually organized a full concert that took place on our last night with them before they all went on holiday back to their villages. It was a blast! I will be posting the entire concert on this blog. I'm sure you guys will love it. I am currently writing the entry from a small hotel room in Kuala Lumpur as Ami and I try to sort out our Thai visas before we make our way to Krabi, Thailand.

I've uploaded videos of our experiences in Kudat for this blog exclusively. Well, here is an intro video followed by the first half of the final show. I like to call the concert Kudat Stock. Ya know, like as in Wood Stock, get it? get it??

Enjoy!

And now some photos to show you guys where we lived.

This was our bedroom. Very normal as you can see.

This was the living room

This was the front area.

This is the kitchen.
Bet you didn't think the blog was going to be this exciting did you?

Well, here's part one of the Kids of Kudat Concert or A.K.A. Kudat Stock!

Now, here's an example of the home-cooked food we ate every day and night. The other house guests we were living with were so lovely and accommodating to us. They made sure we were well-fed throughout the entire day, every day. Thanks guys!!!

Coconut fish curry!!!

And sides like white rice, bean sprouts and spiced omelet. You can't have a meal in Asia without rice and egg.
And now here are some cute photos of a new born puppy that was just starting his precious life at one of the houses where the kids lived.

Isn't he cute?!

I just had to take more photos!
Unfortunately, this little guy died a few days after I took these photos. It seems that many new born animals don't live too long after their birth. May he rest in doggy heaven.

And now for part two of Kudat Stock!

Here are some photos of Ami and I in action with the kids of Kudat!

An early morning English class.

These guys worked so hard despite the early hour!
While Ami was teaching English lessons, I was recruiting students for what would become Kudat Stock! Here are some shots of some lessons and early practices.

So many kids were so eager to pick up instruments they had never played before!
Here's a photo from one of the first practices from the soon-to-be-famous band JEBA.
The bass and guitar just ROCKIN' OUT!
And now for part three of Kudat Stock. Enjoy!

So that is it for Whodat in Kudat? Part One. I hope you all enjoyed it as much as we did. Stay tuned for the rest. And folks, this ain't even half of it!

  1. It's not letting me watch any of the videos. It says that they are private, so I can't watch them.
